The following sites will help you search for information on the Internet. REMEMBER: Any time you use pictures or information from the Internet, you must cite your source. Here are some paper reference slips to fill out, or you can use the online NoodleBib. Another great citing sources tool is BibMe.

Evaluating Sites	Quality Information Checklist - Be sure to evaluate the information you find on the Internet for purpose, clarity, timeliness, bias, etc. Use this guide to help you out!
	Credible Sources Count! - A nice tutorial that goes through how to evaluate sites. Good example and non-example sites. From Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada
	CyberSmart! - This links directly to a great site evaluation form in PDF. Run a site through this checklist to see if it is a quality site for research.

Search Engines	Ask Kids - Type in a key word or question. Click on Images to search for pictures.
	YAHOO! KIDS - Web guide for kids. Search by word or category.
	Internet Public Library - Incredible source (kids version). Almanacs, Biographies, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, etc.
	Google - Use only if preferences have been set to Strict Filtering, and then use with adult permission.
	Kid's Search Tools - Contains the above search engines, dictionaries, thesaurus, etc. all in one place!
	KidsClick! - Web search for kids created by librarians.
	Super Cool Guide for Finding Stuff on the Web - Search by key word or category.
	All in One Search Tool Site - This TekMom site combines great search engines for kids, as well as other search tools including science, history, pictures, dictionaries, biographies, authors, and maps.

Encyclopedias

World Book Online - Subscription service encyclopedia. E-mail Mrs. Kline at if you need to access it at home.

Britannica Online - This school edition offers an excellent way to research a topic, action-packed videos and a quick-click dictionary and thesaurus.

Topeka Public Library

Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library - Access the Library Catalog to see if books are available.

Go Grolier - A wealth of resources. To use this site, you will need to sign up for a free 30-day trial, or purchase a license.

SIRS Discoverer - Access to magazine, newspaper, encyclopedia articles and more. This is a paid subscription. E-mail Mrs. Bruce at if you need to access it at home.

Harcourt Biographies - A selection of biographies with pictures and easy text.

Academy of Achievement - A museum of living history from Washington, DC. Incredible interviews of each person.

Yahoo! Kids Biography Directory - A quick look at various biographies of famous Americans.

Biographies for Kids - Quick categories of admirable people.

Gale Free Resources - Great biographies for the following groups of people:

African Americans
Hispanic Americans

Science Superstars - Great bios on famous scientists.

These aren't really search tools, but gives a quick overview of History.

American History - 1780-2005, 8 areas of focus, plus a cool video about the growth of our nation!
American History - 1620-1920, more detail provided.

All About Explorers - This has great information about explorers.

Images	Photos Smithsonian Images - Good photos that can be used for personal or educational use. Wikimedia Commons - Most of these images are not copyrighted, but always check the description. Use caution as you would with Google Images. Pics4Learning - Photographs for school use. Use the Search feature in the upper-left corner. PD Photo - More copyright free images. Photos8 - Public domain photos - outstanding quality! US History Images - Most images are in the public domain, but read their terms of use.
	Scribble Maps - This is a great world map that you can move around in, view the terrain, zoom in, and save as a .jpg or .kml (to be opened in Google Earth).
	Dorling Kindersly - Free school type clip art - searchable.
	Discovery School Clip Art - More clips browseable by subject.
	School Clip Art - Various cartoon type clip browseable by subjects.
	Icon Finder - Searh for various types of clip art by subject.
	Philip Martin Clipart - School subject related clip art. Very cartoon-like.
