The EduTyping, online software program for elementary students in grades 4-6, is designed to develop cross-curriculum, interdisciplinary skills used to enhance subjects taught in the regular classroom. During this class, we stress proper computer ergonomics, correct finger reaches, techniques and skills, and work towards achieving the district set WPM and accuracy benchmarks. These skills are essential for today's students to function effectively in our highly technological society.

By the time they leave 6th grade, our students type above the WPM expectation. However, our focus in the elementary grades is on technique and accuracy, not speed. We want the students to learn proper habits first; speed will come with practice!

District level words per minute and accuracy standards have been set at the following:

4th - 14 WPM 90% Accuracy

5th - 16 WPM 90% Accuracy

6th - 18 WPM 90% Accuracy

Goals and Objectives

Computer Literacy Standards

Teach students to use the computer efficiently by teaching them to key words faster than they write.
Teach students to use the keyboard and computer as a tool to enrich language arts, social studies, science, and math
Teach word processing skills along with keyboarding skills.
Familiarize students with computer care, vocabulary, usage, and identify ways technology affects students' lives.

Students will model correct posture and keyboarding techniques.
Students will demonstrate the ability to reach each key with the correct finger.
Students will respond to network system dialog.
Students will demonstrate the knowledge of special function keys.
Students will utilize the computer to produce correctly formatted documents which include graphics.
Students will demonstrate proofreading and editing skills.
Students will integrate computer keyboarding skills with classroom subjects.
Students will demonstrate the ability to format, save, retrieve, and print documents in a timely, efficient manner.
